DAY 2 COURSE NOTES
DOWNLOAD BONUS LOOP GPX HERE —> (GPX)
THE DAY 2 MAP ABOVE IS NOT CORRECT REGARDING START TIMES – THE CORRECT START TIMES FOR DAY 2 ARE 9H00 TO 10H45 (1 hour later than shown on the map).
WE HAVE ALSO ADDED AN EXTRA STAGE AFTER LA FOLIE DOUCE PARTY. SP5 WILL BE OPEN TO RACE BETWEEN 15H30 AND 17H30.
We were told only yesterday that despite the promises made to us by the station many, many times – they have let us down AGAIN.
They have failed to fix the funicular in time to open it this weekend. What is especially shocking, is that until less than 24 hours ago, they consistently promised us that it would be fixed, and ready.
BUT…..fear not! We are determined that the race will carry on! And that you will still have an AWESOME time!
So, we hope you will understand if we ask you to pedal up the hill from Bourg St Maurice to Les Arcs……that’s OK, right?
Haha no way! We are not THAT crazy!
We have performed a small miracle (and really not slept at all since Friday) in order to find drivers, busses and vans so we can run shuttles all weekend, instead of the funicular.
There will probably be some delays between shuttles….but we will do our best to make everything run smoothly. Please be patient!
The START schedule will be the same as Day 1. Check your start time on the course map (first riders 7h45 at Laboshop to take a 8h00 bus).
SP1 starts at the top of the Cachette Chairlift.
We had to cancel our second stage at the top of the station, because there is too much snow (checkout the photos I took up there only 2 days ago!).
This means that before SP2 you must GET OFF THE TRANSARC (Telecabine / bubble) LIFT AT THE MIDDLE-STATION. If you forget and travel to the top of the mountain, you can either chose to ride back to the middle station on the 4×4 track, or simply stay on the lift and ride back down.
Stage SP2 takes you to the Vallandry area, and we will use the Grizzly chairlift (The Vallandrychairlift we used in previous editions of Enduro2 does not exist, any more!).
The BAR MONT BLANC next to the Grizzly lift is open all day and Gabi will be there to give you a timing check after SP2 and SP3.
Our BONUS loop today is the famous Jackson’s trail. This trail was originally built by trailAddicition guides, then completed in collaboration with our local friendly farmer – “Mr Jackson”. It’s a Vallandry classic and we recommend you enjoy it, while you are here! There is no climbing liaison to access this trail – it starts directly to the left (behind the ski lift cabin) next to the start of SP3.
Use the Strava navigation link , if you are not sure.
When you complete this Bonus stage, please be careful on the road and clear the exit of the trail quickly. Turn left, then ride down hill on the road to Moulin and the village of Peisey-Nancroix. As you begin to exit the village of Peisey-Nancroix you must turn RIGHT and climb 5 minutes back up into the centre of the village to take the LONZAGNE chairlift. (2 riders per cabin). At the top of this lift, turn left and ride into the centre of Vallandry to take your lunch at Bistrot Savoyard.
After lunch, follow the arrows back to the Grizzly lift for SP3.
At the end of SP4, ride 10 minutes to LA FOLIE DOUCE and get ready to PARTY!
Please don’t take your bike onto the terrace. You can park it on the grass outside and you see your bike from the terrace (in case you are worried it will feel lonely on it own, you can wave at it whilst you enjoy your beer and pizza).
Gabi will give each rider in your team a special ticket which you can exchange at the bar for Beer or Soft drink, and Pizza. (If you are team of 3, you need 3 tickets).
The race finishes today at LA FOLIE DOUCE but you still have 1000m of vertical to get home…. 🙂
We recommend that you follow our Strava Liaison which is an easy 4×4 track downhill to Arc 1600, and then enjoy yourself by riding Day 3 SP4 (La 8 / Black 8) in reconnaissance or “test” mode – to practise your lines for the race on Sunday.
Of course, if you drink a few beers then please be sensible and do not ride your bike home! (We saw so many big accidents after only one or two beers, its just not worth it!). In this case, you can also take the funicular downhill – the last train leaves at 19h30.
Be aware that our safety team are NOT on standby once you finish the race at La Folie Douce – so they cannot come to help you if you injure yourself on the way back to Bourg St Maurice!
